This was the first time I had created an artwork on the East Coast of Australia. Before arriving I had designed a work which would explore ideas of gathering together to talk about taking care of this earth, listening to our local Elders and sharing ways to create systems which replenish. When I arrived, the local banksia was in full flower all over Byron Bay. I used just this one plant for the entire work - its sticks, the nuts, and flowers, cut in segments and pulled apart. Whilst there and inspired by the shapes of the flowers when cut, the work became a gathering around the night sky. This act always reminds us of our true place in the scheme of things.
